Day 7: 10/17/07 Beaufort (0 miles) - Rest Day
This is our lay over day. After arising a bit before 7 AM, I took a long walk and returned to join Buck for a cup of coffee on the afterdeck
as we watched the most of the large boats pull out heading south to Florida for the winter. We decided to eat breakfast ashore this morning and ate at a cafĂ© overlooking the marina. Buck had a bacon, mushroom and Swiss omelet, while I contented myself with ½ a waffle, bacon and one egg. The waitress also told us that Jimmy Buffet had been aboard the magnificent dark blue150 foot mega-yacht named “Mother Ocean,” which was moored only 10 feet from the bow of our boat(It was at least 4 times as big as the boat in the picture above). She had seen him at dinner at a local restaurant last night. After breakfast, Buck polished the windows with Rainex, and I tried to catch up with this log. We then strolled through the local shops and returned to the boat to enjoy some of Buck’s excellent homemade chicken soup which we had pulled from the freezer first thing this morning.
We had a lazy warm afternoon reading and puttering about on the boat. After cocktails, we tried another of Beaufort's great restaurants: the Spouter Inn. We had a table on the patio overlooking the harbor. Buck had oysters and grilled tuna, while I enjoyed a crab cake appetizer and bouillabaisse, a French seafood stew. We then shared an excellent slice of coconut cream pie and waddled back to the boat.
